Those on a week’s holiday in Mallorca will almost certainly want to experience the island’s highlights, including the shopping and nightlife in Palma and the famous cathedral.

The major highlights can be found on Mallorca’s main tourism site; however, those with a timeshare property will have the time to discover the island’s hidden gems ‒ the less touristy spots, the secluded beaches and the locals’ favorite spots on this stunning Mediterranean island.

Cala Sequer

It is rare to bump into holidaymakers or even locals at this idyllic secluded cove, which is found to the east of the island. One of the reasons for its peacefulness is the hike that it takes to get there. Once you have driven as close as possible, you will need to hike the last few kilometers to the beach. Time your visit to arrive early and avoid walking in the hot sun, take enough food and water to last the day, and return once it gets cooler in the afternoon. If you are even slightly out of season you are bound to have a day to yourself at this gorgeous sandy cove. Those who are not used to hiking should familiarise themselves with official advice for hiking in hot weather.

Mallorcan market at Sineu

Perhaps the most traditional is the one at Sineu on Wednesdays, where livestock are still traded alongside leather, lace, olives, fruit, and a host of other foods. Those staying on the island with young children can stay around for the entertainment, which includes pony rides.

Sunset viewing

There are plenty of fabulous places to watch the sunset on Mallorca, which an island famous for its sunsets; however, the most beautiful and lesser known is at Sa Foradada, a spot known mostly just to locals and timeshare resales owners. Accessing this spot involves another hike, which is under an hour but enough to put off the crowds and ensure you enjoy a secluded and peaceful evening.

Fine dining

Most of Mallorca’s amazing local restaurants have already been discovered by the ever-burgeoning crowds and expat communities. Most notable is Es Verger, which was ‘discovered’ by Rick Stein and is now known as the ‘Lamb Restaurant’ amongst ex-pats. There are other lesser-known gems, many of which can be found in the northern city of Binissalem.
