I made this thread to talk about Mylène's unique style of dancing and which choreography of her's you prefer. Some people hate her dancing, some love it. I, for one, love that it looks like nothing else.

For me the obvious standout is Désenchantée. There's a video on youtube comparing the choreography of this song to tektonik and it's easy to see the resemblance. I think it's easily the coolest looking dance Mylène's ever created and the only one I've managed to completely commit to memory. You can also pick out bits in which Mylène seems to have been influenced by Michael Jackson (the jump-kick after the musical interlude in the 1991 TV version).

The second which comes to mind is L'Ame Stram Gram. It's ever so subtly sexual...just like the song! In fact this choreography is more like a series of distinct poses rather than moves that simply flow into each other. This reminds me in many ways of Flamenco dancing (which Mylène is obviously a fan of). The 2009 version with the added intro is just techno perfection in my opinion. [heart]

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Mylène's style as well as your favorite choreographies.

Totally agree. Désenchantée is a really unique and... catchy? piece of choreography, and whenever I hear it I'm secretly doing the moves in my head laughing congrats on committing the entire thing to memory though, I've never quite managed to get the entire thing.

I'm also quite fond of the dances for Sans Contrefaçon and Optimistique-Moi (a la Mylenium 2000 with the ridiculous black outfit)

And just for a lol, the choreography for On Est Tous Des Imbéciles. It's really bad, but its stuck in my head forever, and I always cross my eyes when I hear "poète!" Razz

I love MF's choreography: it's precise, complicated, eccentric and at times just plain mad.

(Sounds like I'm describing someone. I wonder who...?)

My Mam always comments on the routines when we're watching a concert too - even though she's not dance-inclined she loves them.

The dances for On Est Tous Des Imbéciles and Maman A Tort are always amusing. And at least they show that Mylène doesn't take herself too easily. Not to mention that she was doing that whole sliding around and arm swaying move years before George Michael Laughing

Ten years ago I used to think that Mylene's dancing was pretty poor - influence of 2 teenage daughters who "were in the know" & kept telling it was naff. Over the years I've actually come to quite like it - or perhaps I've just got used to it. I think most of the stuff on SDF is pretty good but on the other hand I give you two from AQLO AB that are dire - Porno-graphique & Nobody Knows - which both resemble Mylene's own version of Saint Vitus Dance Wink

I liked her dancing (up til SDF, C'est Dans L'air was just stupid!) and really respected the fact that she choreographs the majority herself. It adds something new and interesting to it, unlike stockstandard dance moves used by 'professionals'

I would say the choreography for C'est Dans L'Air was probably a bit too simplistic. Nonetheless I can't stop myself from doing it whenever I hear the song and it certainly didn't subtract from her overall live performance which was fantastic.
