I am very curious as to how Laurent Boutonnat & Mylene compose their songs together. While we all know Laurent composes the music and Mylene writes the lyrics, do they consistently do so in the same way or order? Does Mylene write lyrics ot Laurent's music, or does Laurent write music to Mylene's lyrics? Is Laurent's music the "muse" for Mylene's lyrics, or are Mylene's lyrics the "muse" for Laurent's music? It seems the music and lyrics generally go so well together. Has anybody ever read or seen any interview accounts by Laurent or Mylene as to how their songs generally "come together?" If you don't know, what would you guess? We all know the lyrics were written first in "Mylene is Calling" (Boutonnat apparently composed the song around a message Mylene left on his answering machine). I'm guessing that Mylene generally provides the words to Laurent who puts them to song. I know that's how Elton John & Bernie Taupin composed (Bernie would hand Elton the lyrics, and Elton would compose the music from them).
I'd appreciate any insight or thoughts anybody may have about this! THANKS!

-from the other thread-
I reckon it's a combination of all three anyway, I'm probably leaning towards generally Mylene would write lyrics about such and such and then pass them on... easiest way to ensure her poetic tendencies _________________

I don't remember reading such an interview and, given the shroud of mystery enveloping all things Mylene, I don't think Mylene and LB would give away such specific details anyway.

Ok, this question isn't exaaaactly about Mylène, but I'm still very curious about it.
In the SDF concert, what on earth is that shiny glowy square thingy that Yvan is playing with during Dégénération?
Kinda looks like he's got a good game of Space Invaders going on _________________ Sans contrefaçon, je suis un garçon...

Take this with a pinch of salt because I cannot recall where I read/heard this....... I vaguely remember Mylène mentioning somewhere/somehow that Laurent writes the music first and then she writes the lyrics... this I thought was rather strange, but then again, what isn't in Mylène/Laurent's little world, right? This was sometime in the 90s, that I recall..... but I'm sure they don't follow the same recipe all the time. We know for one how Sans Contrefaçon was conceived (thanks to Elsa Trillat )... in this case, Mylène wrote the lyrics first (while in a swimming pool and with the help of a thesaurus) and then both her and Elsa witnessed how Laurent created the music......
In a nutshell... it's probably a combination of both systems. I would think sometimes Laurent writes some good pieces of music and thinks of Mylène, so he passes them out to her to fill in the lyrics. And at other times, Mylène writes some good songs and asks Laurent to compose the music for them....
In the case of Degeneration, for example, I'm pretty sure Laurent composed the music first and then Mylène broke her head thinking of what lyrics would go best with it! _________________
